Judge John Anderson of Houston; scofflaw; moron, ethically indigent

Judge John Anderson has been a judge on the 14th District Court of Appeals in Houston since 1995.

Texas Election law allows using campaign funds to pay annual Texas state bar dues. The rationale being that a judge in Texas is required to be a licensed attorney and the payment of annual bar dues is a purpose connected with his/her duties as an officeholder.

From 2005 through 2008, Judge John Anderson used campaign funds to pay annual bar dues to the District of Columbia Bar Association. Being a member of and paying annual bar dues to the DC Bar Association is not required in the State of Texas to sit on the bench. Therefore, in my personal opinion these annual expenditures by Judge John Anderson as set forth below constitute an unlawful conversion of campaign funds for personal use.
  1. District of Columbia Bar Assn, 20080527, 98.00
  2. District of Columbia Bar Assn, 20070521, 95.00, Annual Bar Dues
  3. District of Columbia Bar Assn, 20060526, 90.00, Bar Dues
  4. District of Columbia Bar Assn, 20050518, 89.00, Annual Bar Dues
Vanity License Plates for Judge John Anderson

In 2008 and 2006, Judge John Anderson used campaign funds to pay for judicial license plates for three cars as described below.
  1. Paul Bettencourt, Harris County Tax Collector, 20080109, 198.24, Judicial license plates for three cars
  2. Paul Bettencourt, Harris County Tax Collector, 20051228, 142.11, Judicial license plates
Again, these expenditures appear to be in conflict with Texas law because paying for these “vanity” plates is not a requirement of a judicial officeholder. Moreover, Judge John Anderson is in a very small minority of judges that so act.

And why would Judge John Anderson need to purchase judicial plates for three (3) cars? Even though he is “special person,” I’m not aware that he could drive more than one car at a time, right? Obviously, his wife and/or children are driving cars and giving the false impression to others, including police officers that they are in fact a judge.

Trust me folks, many police officers will give the proverbial wink and a nod to a driver who is illegally parked and/or violates the traffic laws when they notice a “judicial plate” on the back of the car. In my opinion, this is the sole reason why Judge John Anderson spent campaign funds to purchase three judicial license plates.

Judge John Anderson – the Magnanimous Gift-Giver

On August 28, 2007, Judge John Anderson spent $150 in campaign funds to purchase a gift from Chappell Jordan Clocks in Houston as a “gift for a departing briefing attorney.” In my opinion, using campaign funds to purchase gifts for court employees is illegal and if it isn’t it sure should be.

With that said, do ya really think that Judge John Anderson advised his briefing attorney that it didn’t cost him even one penny to purchase this gift? I think we know the answer to that, right?
