Attorney Michael Bennett of Shawnee, KS; convicted felon

The sate of Kansas presented Michael Lynn Bennett with a law license in 1991.

The Kansas Board for Discipline of Attorneys found Michael guilty of the following misconduct.

Engaged in conduct involving fraud, dishonest, deceit or misrepresentation
Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on his fitness to practice

Michael’s misconduct arose out of a police report and insurance claim he made. Subsequently, Michael was found guilty of the following crimes.
  1. Fraudulent insurance act – felony
  2. Theft by deception – non-person felony
  3. Falsely reporting a crime – non-person misdemeanor
Michael made a false report to the Topeka Police Department that his home had been burglarized and that several items belong to him and his tenant, Donalea Denton, a law student, had been stolen. Michael then filed an itemized claim with his insurance company and received $4,863 on his fabricated claims.

Michael’s downfall came about when Ms. Denton was preparing to move out of his residence. While doing so she discovered several of the items that Michael had reported stolen were present in the home. She then reported Michael to the Topeka Police and the Office of Disciplinary Administrator.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Kansas Supreme Court punished Michael by placing him on indefinite suspension. After three years of being suspension, the same apologists sitting on the Supreme Court had the chutzpah to reinstate Michael’s law license.

It must be comforting to the folks living in the greater Topeka area to know that there is another convicted felon practicing law compliments of the comedians sitting on the Kansas Supreme Court.

As we speak (ca. September 2012) Michael continues to practice in the Shawnee, Kansas area.
