Republican Party platform supports no limits on ammunition magazines

At the recent Republican convention in Tampa, the party decided to place the following language in its platform:

“We oppose legislation that is intended to restrict our Second Amendment rights by limiting the capacity of clips or magazines.”

We all recall the horrific killings at the theater outside Denver where 12 people were killed and over 50 wounded. In this instance the killer was packing an automatic rifle with a magazine that held 100 bullets.

Who in their right mind would oppose legislation that would outlaw magazines that hold 100 or more bullets? You’ve got to be a real screwball to argue that the 2nd amendment gives anyone the right to a magazine holding 100 or more bullets.

If a magazine with 100 bullets or more is acceptable, can we expect the NRA to support any of the following?
  • The right to carry concealed hand grenades (limit 6)
  • The right to carry concealed handguns if you’re appearing in a Family Court proceeding (females only)
  • The right to carry one concealed rocket launcher
I’d like to have some rational person explain to me why anyone would need a magazine with 100 bullets or more to protect their family from a burglar. If you shot the burglar 100 times or more he’d look like a piece of Swiss cheese.

In my opinion, the rights of theatre goers trump those of some moron that believes he has a 2nd Amendment Right to pack a weapon that holds 100 or more bullets.
