Attorney J. Michael Bruhn of Kingston, NY; ethical leprechaun

The State of New York provided James Michael Bruhn with a law license in 1967 after he graduated from Albany Law School.

At one time, James sat as a part-time judge on the Kingston City Court in Ulster County, New York. As a part-time judge J. Michael was allowed to practice law.

During his tenure on the bench, the New York Commission on Judicial Conduct found Judge Bruhn guilty of the following misconduct.

In several instances, Judge Bruhn sat on cases involving past or present clients. In three of the cases before his court, Bruhn was also the attorney of record in the cases. Judge and Jury, how cool is that?

Judge Bruhn also presided over at least eleven (11) cases that were being prosecuted by his then law partner. Of course Bruhn and his partner split their fees equally, meaning Bruhn had a financial interest in the outcome of these 11 cases.

In another matter, Judge Bruhn presided over a bad check case involving his brother-in-law as the defendant even though his withdrawal from the matter was mandatory.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission punished Bruhn by gifting him a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. August 2012) J. Michael continues to practice in the Kingston, New York area.
