State Rep. Bonnie Garciaof Indio, CA; ethical dwarf

On December 4, 2006, Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia’s son Javier Bermudez was involved in an accident while driving a 2003 Ford Expedition that was the property of the State of California.

Unbelievably, the so-called public servants running the California State Assembly instituted a policy allowing family members to drive state cars purchased for the benefit of State Assembly members. In addition, the omnipotent losers running the State Assembly also have a policy that when a family member causes an accident (he/she is at fault) that, the State insurer will pay for all property damages and/or personal injury claims.

What in the hell is a family member doing driving a state car in the first place? They aren’t state employees, right? Will our esteemed legislators pass future rules allowing an assemblyman’s paramour (girlfriend) the right to drive state cars?

Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia’s son Javier Bermudez was cited for “failure to yield the right of way” on Dec. 4, 2006, which resulted in the State insurer paying $5,775.25 in property damage and $1,495.72 for bodily injury. At the time of the accident Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia was attending a legislative session in Sacramento. Since the State paid for her airfare to fly to Sacramento, this means the 2003 Expedition was at her residence in Indio. Therefore, it is obvious that she left the keys to the state’s Expedition at her home so it would be available for her son’s use.

From 2003 to 2008, Californians spent the following sums to provide Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia with a luxury ride of her choice.
  • $32,925 – 2003 Ford Expedition
  • $39,653 – 2007 Cadillac CTS
  • $21,150 – lease costs
  • $9,029 – maintenance costs
  • $2,500 – liability insurance
  • $105,257 – total costs for six-years.
In addition to the above, from 2006 to 2008, Californians paid $26,222.56 for airfare to fly Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia from Indio to Sacramento and back ($8,741 yearly average). Add in the costs of the luxury cars, and the total comes to $157,257 for a yearly average of $26,209 to provide Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia and her family with transportation.

If Bonnie had any ethics she would not have allowed her son to drive a state vehicle, and more importantly she would not have allowed the state insurer to pay for an accident that her son caused by his failure to yield the right of way.

If ya wanna know why these arrogant ingrates get away with providing themselves with luxury vehicles of their choosing along with unlimited fuel/maintenance and insurance, I’d suggest that each voter look in the closest mirror. Once you’ve done that you’ll discover who’s really at fault.

Lastly, I would suggest that every voter and taxpayer in California contact his/her State Legislators and tell them in no uncertain terms that if they do not immediately return their state cars to the State, they will never receive your vote in the future. If you do nothing but sit on your hands and let these ingrates continue to hose you (pun intended), then you have absolutely no right to complain about this outrageous conduct.
