Attorney Larry Klayman of Washington DC; deadbeat loser
The state of Florida presented Larry Elliot Klayman with a law license in 1977 after he graduated from Emory University Law School.
The Florida Bar found Larry guilty of the following misconduct in early 2011. .
In 2007, Natalia Humm filed a grievance against Larry claiming he had failed to provide legal services to her in a criminal case after she paid him a $25,000 retainer.
Larry and Natalia agreed to submit the fee matter to the Florida Bar Grievance Mediation Program. According to the terms of the Feb 3, 2009 Mediation Agreement, Larry agreed to pay Natalia $5,000 within 90 days from the date the Agreement was executed.
On June 3, 2009, Jonathan Rotstein, Natalia’s attorney sent a letter to the Florida Bar stating that Larry had failed to honor the terms of the Mediation Agreement to pay Natalia $5,000 indicated that he didn’t do so.
The Bar then sent Larry a letter demanding an explanation of his noncompliance with the Mediation Agreement. Larry responded by whining that he was suffering financial problems but promised to pay the $5,000 by Sept 30, 2009. As expected Larry lied because he didn’t pay as he promised by Sept 30. This prompted another letter from the Bar giving Larry a new deadline of November 30, 2009. As usual, Larry didn’t comply with the November deadline, which prompted the filing of an additional complaint by the Bar.
Larry’s new response was that he was still suffering financial problems and was actually in the process of filing for bankruptcy.
Eventually Larry agreed to pay Ms. Humm $500 a month until the $5,000 debt was paid in full. After making two or three payments, Larry stopped sending payments. He also refused to respond to repeated requests from the State Bar regarding his failure to live up to his agreements.
As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Florida Supreme Court punished Larry by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.
