Attorney Michael P. Murphy, Jr. of Philadelphia; convict, serial drunk

The state of Pennsylvania presented Michael Patrick Murphy, Jr. with a law license in 2003.

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) found Michael guilty of being found guilty of the following misconduct.

Michael was convicted of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence (DUI), recklessly endangering another person, and driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance.

Michael’s criminal conduct came about when he entered the westbound lane of the Pennsylvania Turnpike heading in the wrong direction while he was drunk as a skunk.

Due to his drunken state, Michael proceeded eastward in the westbound lane and crashed head-on with another vehicle, causing significant injuries to the other driver. Subsequently, Michael was sentenced to three months of electronic home confinement, eight-years of probation, 516 hours of community service, restitution to the victims, and a $1500 fine.

Disciplinary Counsel found that Michael incurred over $15,000 in credit card charges for alcohol purchases over five-years while attending college and law school. During his first year in law school, Michael was convicted of driving under the influence (DUI) in West Chester, Pennsylvania

Michael the Lying Drunk

In his application for a law license, Michael lied to the Pennsylvania Bar when he stated he was a moderate drinker who rarely became drunk. This was his defense to the DUI conviction in West Chester.

In fact, Michael lied under oath about his drinking problems when he was questioned about it during the application process for his law license. He then changed his testimony that he basically was a habitual drunk in order to use it as a ploy to retain his license. Put simply, Michael is a degenerate liar who is more than willing to give perjured testimony to support the circumstances at hand.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court punished Michael by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 6-month suspension of his law license. In truth, the comics sitting on the Supreme Court didn’t mete out any real punishment to Michael.

As we speak (ca. July 2012) Michael practices with Sobol Sobol & Murphy PC at 1760 Market Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
