Former Judge William Cobb of Island Pond, VT; ethical troll

The state of Vermont provided William Cobb with a law license in 1998 after he graduated from the University of Vermont School of Law

The Vermont Judicial Conduct Board found Billy guilty of engaging in the following misconduct, all of which took place while he served as Probate Judge in the Vermont Superior Court, Caledonia Unit, Probate Division, and at the time was engaged in the private practice of law in St. Johnsbury, Vermont.

• Intentionally attempted to mislead Disciplinary Counsel instead of cooperating with her investigation (Screw you, said Billy!)
• Provided misleading and inaccurate information regarding his billing practices to ethics investigators
• Failed to act in manner promoting public confidence in the judiciary
• Failed to avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety
• Engaged in five (5) specific acts of impropriety
• Refused to acknowledge the wrongful nature of his conduct
• Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
• Engaged in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation
• Committed multiple acts of misconduct
• Engaged in bad faith obstruction of the disciplinary proceeding (Up yours, said Billy!)
• Billy posed a substantial threat to the public

Rather than await a ruling that may well have led to him being tossed off the bench, Billy did what any cowardly Judicial Misfit would do, he resigned from the bench.

As we speak (ca. February 2025), Billy practices his so-called brand of law with William Cobb Law Offices at 379 Railroad Street in Island Pond, Vermont.
