Attorney Michael Sellers of Clive, IA; cheater, repeater

 

The state of Iowa presented Michael M. Sellers with a law license after he graduated from Drake University School of Law.

 

The Iowa Supreme Court Attorney Disciplinary Board found Mikey guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

Mikey’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Negotiated a plea agreement not supported by the facts on behalf of his client

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Mikey by gifting him with a complimentary admonition.

 

Mikey’s 2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Failed to expedite client litigation
  • Engaged in the filing of frivolous litigation
  • Demonstrated an active intent to delay court proceedings
  • Missed initial disclosure deadline, which led to protracted discovery dispute
  • File a dubious motion to dismiss
  • Improperly removed case to federal court, which led to eight months of additional unnecessary delay in the matters as the parties argued over remand
  • Frivolous filings and intentional delay cause additional unnecessary court proceedings
  • Disingenuously insisted that existing case law supported his position for removal of matter to federal court

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Mikey by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

 

Mikey’s 3rd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Charged client unreasonable fee (cheater)
  • Billed client $312,120.38 to vacate a simple misdemeanor jury verdict
  • The unconscionable billing even though the jury verdict involving client misdemeanor resulted in a deferred judgment
  • The $312,120.38 in billing to the client came about after the conviction had been expunged
  • Ordered to refund $11,000 to client [victim] for overbilling

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Mikey by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license.

 

As we speak (ca. March 2024), Mikey practices his so-called brand of law Sellers Galenbeck & Nelson at 8230 Hickman Road in Clive, Iowa.
