Attorney Felice Mischel of Hackensack, NJ; convicted tax cheat
The state of New Jersey presented Felice F. Mischel with a law license in 1980. Felice was also licensed to practice in New York.
The New Jersey Office of Attorney Ethics found Howard guilty of the following misconduct.
Felice was criminally charged for filing a New York State Tax return that she knew contained deductions that were false and fraudulent and that she did so willingly and knowingly with the intent to defraud the state of New York. Subsequently, Felice pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of New York, to one count of offering a false statement for filing.
Felice scam involved an outfit called 717 Associates, Ltd. to invest in the stock market. 717 Associates received substantial income from these investments and therefore, owed substantial taxes to the state of New York and federal government. Felice created false and fictitious business expenses in order to create the false appearance that 717 Associates owed less state and federal taxes that actually due. Specifically, Felice reported the following fabricated business expenses:
In truth, 717 Associates had no office, no car, no telephone and no legitimate business entertainment expenses.
As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the New Jersey Supreme Court punished Felice by gifting her with a 24-month suspension of her law license.
