The state of Oregon presented Gary Lee Nelson with a law license in 2015 after he graduated from Willamette University School of Law.
The Disciplinary Counsel found Gary guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

Garywas investigated for pursuing personal relationships with domestic violence victims he had met while prosecuting their abusers

Knowingly lied several times to investigators regarding a number of topics

During an interview at his home, Gary admitted pursing pursuing a relationship with one victim through social media but made several false statements regarding his contact with her—including his denial that they had engaged in sexual intercourse

Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty, or misrepresentation

Violated his duty to the public to maintain personal integrity

Misconduct involved selfish and/or dishonest motive

Provided false information to investigators to avoid culpability, shame and embarrassment

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Oregon Supreme Court punished Gary by gifting him with a complimentary 180-day suspension of his law license.
