Former Judge Cynthia Hathaway of West Bloomfield, MI; ethical troll

The state of Michigan provided Cynthia Gray Hathaway with a law license in 1987 after she graduated from the Detroit College School of Law.

The Judicial Tenure Commission found Cynthia guilty of the following misconduct, all of which took place while she was employed as a 3rd Circuit Court Judge in Wayne County.

  • Engaged in indefensible conduct
  • Failed to provide any plausible explanation for her conduct
  • Cynthia’s refusal to do her work caused profound suffering for the family of the victim and outrageous inconvenience for the witnesses
  • The record of the Ketchings case amply demonstrates the remarkable extent of Judge Cynthia's failure to discharge her judicial duties
  • Failed to avoid impropriety or the appearance of impropriety
  • Failed to attend in timely fashion to the business of her court
  • Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the actual administration of justice
  • Undermined the ability of the justice system to discover the truth of what occurred in a legal controversy, or to reach the most just result in such a case
  • Engaged in the unequal application of justice on the basis of such considerations as race, color, ethnic background, gender, or religion
  • Repeatedly disparaged the integrity of the system on the basis of a class of citizenship
  • Constantly and repeatedly adjourned proceedings without good cause
  • Failed to properly manage her court docket
  • Displayed an unwillingness to take corrective action or accept constructive suggestions or assistance to improve her case management
  • During a month constituting 20 work days, Cynthia missed two days, six days she had all matters adjourned, and four days most proceedings were adjourned, meaning she only worked three days in the month of June
  • For many days during the summer, all proceedings were adjourned by Cynthia

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Michigan Supreme Court punished Cynthia by gifting her with a complimentary 6-month suspension from the bench without pay.

As we speak (ca. February 2024), Cynthia practices her so-called brand of law at 7407 Sherwood Creek in West Bloomfield, Michigan.
