Attorney John DeLeon of Green River, WY; deceitful loser

The state of Wyoming provided John Joseph DeLeon with a law license in 2001 after he graduated from the University of Wyoming School of Law.

The Board of Professional Responsibility found Johnny guilty of engaging in the following misconduct, all of which took place while he was employed as Deputy Sweetwater County Attorney.

  • Made deceptive comments to law enforcement
  • While working as a public defender in Rawlins, Johnny had a relationship with Candice Nichole Cortez
  • The relationship with Ms. Cortez resulted in Johnny’s firing
  • Cortez pled guilty to second-degree sexual abuse of a minor after admitting to abusing a 5-year-old boy she was babysitting
  • An additional charge of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor was dropped as part of Cortez’s plea agreement
  • As part of her sentencing, Ms. Cortez was not allowed to reside within 1,000 feet of a school
  • Subsequently, Ms. Cortez moved to Green River and stayed with Johnny who lived in the Monroe Apartments, which is less than 200 feet from Monroe Elementary School
  • When Sweetwater County Probation and Parole performed a compliance check, Johnny denied Ms. Cortez ever spent the night at his apartment
  • After a forensic search of her phone proved otherwise and Cortez faced charges for allegedly violating the Wyoming Sex Offender Registration Act
  • Johnny eventually admitted he had lied about her staying at his apartment

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Wyoming Carolina Supreme punished Johnny by gifting him with a complimentary censure and assessed investigative costs of $800.00.

As we speak (ca. November 2023), Johnny continues to practice his so-called brand of jurisprudence as a Deputy Sweetwater County Attorney at 80 West Flaming George Way in Green River, Wyoming.
