Attorney Roger Stridsberg of Cincinnati, OH; greedy cheater

The state of Ohio presented Roger Coolidge Stridsberg with a law license in 1949 after he graduated from the University of Cincinnati Law School.

The Cincinnati Bar Association Grievance Committee found Roger guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Charged a clearly excessive fee (cheater)
  2. Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice law
  3. Failed to respond to client inquires
Roger’s misconduct involved his handling of a worker’s compensation claim. On three occasions the Bureau of Workers Compensation (BWC) issued checks payable to Roger on behalf of his client in the respective amounts of $2,859.52, $8,243.65, and $1,717.68. These checks were based on the district hearing officer’s September 6 order allowing for an extra year of payments.

A month later Roger received an order and notice from BWC reducing the compensation previously ordered. The notice stated that an overpayment of $9,454.44 was made for the extra year, which would be recovered from future payments unless the client sent a check to BWC for the overpayment amount.

Subsequently, Roger paid himself a fee of $3,151.48 which represented the overpayment made by BWC, an amount he clearly was not lawfully entitled too. Roger had the temerity to tell his client that he would be required to pay all monies for the overpayment from BWC which would include the unlawful $3,151.48 Roger paid to himself as a fee. Shortly thereafter, the client fired Roger and hired new counsel.

After firing Roger, the client filed a complaint with the Cincinnati Bar Association. Only after the complaint was filed did Roger make any effort to reimburse the client for illegal fees he paid to himself, which he subsequently did in installments.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the patron saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Ohio Surpeme Court punished Roger by gifting him with a stayed 6-month suspension of his law license. In truth, the comedians sitting on the Court didn’t really punish Roger in any meaningful way.

As we speak (ca. June 2012) Roger practices law at 917 Main Street in Cincinnati, Ohio.
