Former Judge Joshua Ritter of Tenaha, TX; dimwitted scofflaw

The state of Texas presented Joshua Blade Ritter with a law license in 2017 after he graduated from Elon University School of Law.

The Judicial Commission found Josh guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Failed to comply with the law (scofflaw)
  • Failed to maintain professional competence in the law (dimwit)
  • Engaged in willful or persistent conduct clearly inconsistent with the proper performance of his duties
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Conduct case public discredit upon the judiciary ‘
  • Questioned a defendant without his attorney present in court
  • Failed to comply with reporting requirements of the Texas Local Government Code
  • Before asking a criminal defendant a variety of questions, Josh failed to read him his Miranda rights
  • Josh improperly asked the criminal defendant was church he attended, what his denomination was, and where he attended church

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Texas Supreme Court punished Josh by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. September 2023), Josh practices his so-called brand of law with the Law Office of Josh B. Ritter in Tenaha, Texas.
