Attorney Corey Hogan of Amherst, NY; ethical troll

The Law State of New York provided Corey J. Hogan with a law license in 1984 after he graduated from the Harvard University School of Law.

The Appellate Division Disciplinary Panel found Corey guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Failed to communicate to a client within a reasonable period of time, with such communication made in writing
  • Failed to advise client scope of the representation and the basis or rate of the fee for which the client will be responsible
  • Failed to provide to a client, within a reasonable period of time, a letter of engagement or retainer agreement setting forth an explanation of the scope of the legal services to be provided
  • Represented a client in a matter in which a reasonable lawyer would conclude that there is a significant risk that the lawyer’s professional judgment on behalf of the client will be adversely affected by the lawyer’s own financial, business, property or other personal interests, without obtaining from each affected client informed consent, confirmed in writing
  • Entered into a business transaction with a client where he and the client have differing interests and the client expects him to exercise professional judgment for the protection of the client
  • Engaged in conduct that adversely reflects on his fitness as a lawyer
  • Failed to advise client of attorneys’ fees to be charged, expenses, and billing practices

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Appellate Division Disciplinary Panel punished Corey by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. July 2023), Corey practices his so-called brand of law in Amherst, New York.
