Attorney A. James Kauffman of Arlington, VA; rubber check aficionado

The state of Virginia presented A. James Kauffman with a law license in 1962 after he graduated from the University of Richmond School of Law.

The Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board found Jimmy guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Wrote check on insufficient funds account (rubber)
  • Failed to fully cooperate with ethics investigators (Up yours, said Jimmy!)
  • Jimmy’s financial records reflect payments of multiple bills not associated with clients from the trust account, for
  • example, payments to Willow Oaks Country Club, Costco, Cash, and the Virginia State Bar
  • Failed to properly handle his trust account
  • Failed to maintain separate client ledgers for each client
  • Failed to perform required monthly reconciliations of client trust accounts

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Disciplinary Board punished Jimmy by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. July 2023), Jimmy practices his so-called brand of law at 2111 Wilson Blvd in Arlington, Virginia.
