Former Judge Richard Cole of Williamsville, NY; slacker, loser

The state of New York provided Richard W. Cole with a law license in 1980 after he graduated from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo School of Law.

The Grievance Committee of the 8th Judicial District found Dick guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to adequately respond to a client’s reasonable requests for information
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Engaged in conduct that adversely reflects on his fitness as a lawyer
  • Failed to provide the client itemized billing statements at least every 60 days
  • Failed to comply with New York Statute requiring itemization of legal fees be provided to client in a timely manner
  • Dick’s lack of diligence resulted in negative financial implications for the client, including a loss of certain income tax deductions or real property tax rebates

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on a panel of the 8th Judicial Department punished Dick by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. July 2023), Dick practices his so-called brand of law with the Law Office of Richard W. Cole at 16 Beresford Court in Williamsville, New York.
