Judge Carmen Mullen of Beaufort, SC; ethical troll

The state of South Carolina provided Carmen Tevis Mullen with a law license in 1978 after she graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law.

FYI: The South Carolina General Assembly elected Carmen as a circuit court judge for the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit in 2006. Carmen wasn’t elected because she was the most qualified attorney in the greater Beaufort area. She was elected because she was deemed to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

Prosecutor David Pascoe and attorney Eric Bland have alleged that Carmen has engaged in the following misconduct.

• Claimed she mishandled a multi-million-dollar wrongful death settlement involving disgraced lawyer Alex Murdaugh
• Carmen has refused to publicly address her role in approving a secretive $4.3 million settlement in 2019 that Alex Murdaugh ultimately stole for himself
• In addition, Carmen has failed to explained her reasons for involving herself in that case just a month after recusing herself from another Murdaugh legal matter
• Abused her judicial position
• Engaged in improper communications with attorneys
• Mishandled conflicts of interest involving matters pending before her

Despite filing an ethics complaint against Carmen with the South Carolina Judicial Commission, they have heard nothing back from them as of June 2023.

In addition to the above, Carmen has engaged in the following questionable conduct since her unfortunate election as a Circuit Court judge.

• Ordered the sealing of public records in several notable cases, including a murder indictment that a defense attorney wanted hidden to allegedly prevent “undue pretrial publicity”
• Squared off with First Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe in 2018 over what he alleged was a sweetheart sentence for a state lawmaker who pleaded guilty in Pascoe’s yearslong Statehouse corruption investigation

All that remains now is to see what if anything the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission do as to the allegations pending against Carmen.

As we speak (ca. June 2023), Carmen continues to dispense her so-called idea of jurisprudence as a Circuit Court Judge in Beaufort, South Carolina.
