Attorney Brent Winterberg of Kansas City, MO; slacker, repeat offender

The state of Kansas presented Brent Lee Winterberg with a law license in 1993 after he graduated from the University of Missouri School of Law.

As one would suspect, this wasn’t Terry’s First bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. He previously received a complimentary admonition for engaging in a variety of misconduct and two suspensions for failing to pay the annual attorney registration fee for the 2021-22 licensing period, and his failure to o fulfill the minimum CLE (Continuing Legal Education) requirements, and to pay the CLE noncompliance fee for the year 2020-21.

The Kansas Disciplinary Board found Brent guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
• Failed to communicate with his client
• Engaged in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation
• Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
• Engaged in multiple acts of misconduct
• Victim of Mark’s misconduct was vulnerable
• Failed to take steps to prepare and file the QDRO (Qualified Domestic Relations Order) on behalf of his client
• Engaged in dishonesty when he failed to disclose in the self-report letter that he had been reprimanded for this misconduct in Missouri
• Failed to keep client reasonably informed about the status of a matter
• Failed to promptly comply with reasonable client requests for information

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Kansas Supreme Court punished Brent by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. June 2023), Brent practices his so-called brand of law with the Winterberg Law Office at 2300 Main Street in Kansas City, Missouri.
