Attorney Daniel Hancock of Haubstadt, IN; cheating slacker

The state of Indiana provided Daniel Jewel Hancock with a law license in 2002 after he graduated from Indiana University School of Law.

The Illinois Disciplinary Commission found Danny guilty of engaging in the following misconduct, all of which took place while he was Wells County elected prosecutor.

  • Failed to act with reasonable diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to comply promptly with a client’s reasonable requests for information.
  • Failed to explain a matter to the extent reasonably necessary to permit a client to make informed decisions.
  • Failed to refund an unearned fee upon termination of representation (cheater)
  • Despite receiving $1,000 retainer, Danny failed to appear at court scheduled hearing on the client’s behalf
  • After being terminated, the client successfully sued Danny for return of the $1000 unearned retainer
  • The court granted the client a default judgement for the $1000, which Danny has refused to pay

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court punished Danny by gifting him with a complimentary 60-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. June 2023), Danny continues to practice his so-called brand of law with the Hancock Law Office at 303 South 6th Avenue in Haubstadt, Indiana.
