Attorney Trevor Dungate of British Columbia, CAN; serial liar

The Law Society of British Columbia presentedTrevor S. Dungate with a law license in 1999 after he graduated from the University of Ottawa School of Law.

The Hearing Committee for the Law Society of British Columbia found Trevor guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Breached an undertaking given to another lawyer
• Failed to inform RG, an attorney that an investigation had concluded
• Made false or misleading statements to another lawyer
• Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty, or misrepresentation
• Failed to make reasonable inquiries about the circumstances of the Transactions and related client matter
• Failed to inquire about the subject matter and objectives of his retainer
• Failed to inquire about the source of funds he received
• Failed to inquire the legal or beneficial ownership of property and business entities
• Failed to inquire the nature and purpose of the Transactions
• Failed to inquire the business relationships between parties and agents or intermediaries
• Failed to inquire the purpose of the payment of the funds
• Failed to inquire the reason for the funds going to or through his firm’s trust account
• Failed to make a record of the results of inquiries made
• Failed to decline to act or continue to act in the Transactions until there was a reasonable basis for believing that the Transactions were legitimate
• Improperly commissioned the assignment of shares in A Ltd.
• While providing oral testimony before the BC Supreme Court, failed to act honorably and with integrity
• Lied to the BS Supreme Court to the BS Supreme Court that on March 24, 2016, you reviewed a share purchase agreement
• Lied to the BS Supreme Court that his assistant took a scan of JS’s driver’s license on March 24, 2016
• Lied to Law Society investigators in representing that JS had attended your law office on March 24, 2016
• Lied to Law Society investigators he witnessed JS affix her signature to an Assignment of Shares in A Ltd
• Lied to Law Society investigators that, on March 24, 2016, you or your assistant photocopied or scanned JS’s identification
• Lied to Law Society investigators that he obtained a copy of JS’s identification when she attended his office on March 24, 2016
• Lied to Law Society investigators that that JS’s identification had been photocopied or scanned at his office on March 24, 2016.
• Failed to urge one or more of the Unrepresented Parties to obtain independent legal representation
• Failed to take care to see that one or more of the Unrepresented Parties was not proceeding under the impression that you were protecting their interests
• Failed to make it clear to one or more of the Unrepresented Parties that you were acting exclusively in the interests of your clients
• Failed to honor the trust condition set out in his letter to EY dated March 24, 2016
• Failed to register transfer documents when he did not hold in his trust account sufficient funds which, when added to the proceeds of a new mortgage, would allow him to complete the transaction

As a direct result of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the sitting on the Hearing Committee punished Trevor by gifting him with a complimentary 2-month suspension of his law license and assessed disciplinary costs of $ $3,809.84.

As we speak (ca. April 2023), Trevor practices his so-called brand of law with Dungate & Company Law Corporation at 1209 4^th Avenue in Prince George, British Columbia.
