The Law Society of British Columbia presentedJohn Murray Lott with a law license in 1981 after he graduated from the University of Ottawa School of Law.

The Hearing Committee for the Law Society of British Columbia found Johnny guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in a conflict of interest in estate law proceedings
  • Failed to provide his client with the quality of service required of a lawyer
  • Acted in breach of his duty of undivided loyalty to his client by acting as an advocate for and advisor to her daughter SS, when
  • she and the client had different interests and there was a dispute between her and the client in relation to a withdrawal of $100,000 from the client’s bank account
  • Failed to comply with client instruction to provide client’s gift of $100,000 to her daughter
  • Failed to provide his client with the quality of service required of a lawyer
  • Failed to obtain and follow his client’s instructions
  • Failed to follow client instructions as to the revocation of SS’s power of attorney and the client’s arrangements regarding her grandson
  • Failed to ensure, where appropriate, that all instructions were in writing or confirmed in writing
  • Failed to answer reasonable requests from the Client for information, including requests for details with respect to his bills to her and copies of documents and correspondence referenced in his bills
  • Failed to provide the client with complete and accurate information about her matter
  • Excluded his client from communications and withheld information from her regarding the client’s affairs
  • Approached and communicated with a person after she had retained and was represented by new counsel, in the absence of her new counsel and without her new counsel’s consent, contrary to the Code of Professional Conduct for British Columbia
  • Failed to properly withdraw client representation after being terminated
  • Failed to respond to client communications
  • Failed to notify the Executive Director of the Law Society in writing of the circumstances of the unsatisfied monetary judgment against you for $12,841.63 and your proposal for satisfying such judgment, contrary to the Law Society Rules

As a direct result of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the sitting on the Hearing Committee punished Johnny by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand, a $20,000.00 fine and assessed disciplinary costs of $1,000.00.

As we speak (ca. March 2023), Johnny practices his so-called brand of law with the Delta Law Office at 1077 5th Street in Delta, British Columbia.
