Attorney Valderia Bruson of Durham, NC; ethically inept

The state of North Carolina presented Valderia D. Brunson with a law license in 2000.

The North Carolina State Bar charged Valderia with the following misconduct in April 2012.
  1. Commingled client funds with his personal funds
  2. Failed to promptly disburse client funds
  3. Failed to maintain required records of deposits
  4. Individual client trust accounts were not accurate
  5. Failed to perform monthly or quarterly reconciliations of client trust accounts
  6. Did not provide written accountings to clients
  7. Used entrusted trust account funds for her own personal use
  8. Failed to instruct her bank to report bounced checks to the State Bar
When the State Bar audited Valderia’s real estate trust account, they discovered that the balance in the account was approximately $17,700 less than the she was entrusted with.

All that’s left now is to see what punishment if any that the North Carolina Supreme Court visits upon Valderia. Given its checkered record in holding Attorney Misfits to a lower standard of conduct then everyone else, I suspect that at worst Valderia will receive a complimentary reprimand.
