Judge Mary Bramblett of El Paso; Judge Roy Bean Wannabee
FYI: Judge Roy Bean was a saloon-keeper and Justice of the Peace in Val Verde County, Texas, who called himself “The Law West of the Pecos.” Roy was also affectionately referred to as “the hanging judge.”
The state of Texas presented Mary Anne Bramblett with a law license in 1982 after she graduated from St. Mary’s University Law School.
The Judicial Commission found Mary guilty of the following misconduct while she sat as a Judge on the 41st Judicial District Court in El Paso.
Judge Bramblett’s misconduct came about because she caused a false date to be substituted for the actual date of a criminal defendant’s conviction in an overt effort to affect that individual’s immigration status. In doing so Mary manifested a specific intent to abuse her judicial powers to accomplish an outcome she absolutely knew was beyond her lawful and legitimate authority.
As a consequence of Mary’s egregious misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission punished her by gifting her with a reprimand.
Because Judicial Misfits in Texas are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Mary was never criminally charged for altering an official court record.
As we speak (ca. Dec 2011) Mary continues to sit as a District Court Judge in El Paso.
