Attorney Steven Gourley of Smithfield, NC; ethical goblin

The state of North Carolina presented Steven Gourley with a law license in 2012 after he graduated from Michigan State University School of Law.

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar found Stevie guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Failed to disclose a conflict to his superiors when he was an assistant district attorney
  • Cast doubt on the integrity of the criminal process
  • Conduct formed the basis for MARs seeking to set aside several of C.P.’s convictions
  • Conduct limited the State’s options in prosecuting a criminal defendant

As a direct consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Stevie gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

And lastly, as one would suspect, Stevie fails to mention the misconduct set forth above on his self-serving website at www.johnsoncountylaw.com. Apparently, he decided to conceal this highly relevant information from prospective clients for the purpose of not limiting his future victim pool.

As we speak (ca. October 2022), Stevie practices his so-called brand of law with Stewart, Schmidlin & Bullock at 115 South Third Street in Smithfield, North Carolina.
