Attorney Meg Sohmer of Charlotte, NC; ethical gremlin

The state of North Carolina presented Meg Sohmer Wood with a law license in 2001 after she graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law. Meg also received a license to practice in New York in 1993.

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar found Meg guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Assisted out-of-state entities in the unauthorized practice of law
  • Shared fees with nonlawyers
  • Made false or misleading statements about her services
  • Neglected client matters
  • Failed to communicate with clients
  • Failed to properly supervise nonlawyer assistants
  • Engaged in conduct involving dishonesty, or misrepresentation

As a direct consequence of her misconduct the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Meg by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 3-year suspension of her law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Grievance Committee didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Meg.

As we speak (ca. June 2022), Meg practices her so-called brand of law at 9527 Stoney Hill Lane in Charlotte, North Carolina.
