Judge Valerie Vega of Las Vegas; arrogant slacker, lifetime porker  
The state of Nevada unfortunately presented Valerie Vega with a law license in 1983.
Valerie has been porking out at the public trough as a Clark County Judge for the last 23 years (1989 to 2012). Former Gov. Richard Bryan was conned into appointing her to the Municipal Court in 1989. Subsequently, former Gov. Kenny Guinn was also duped into appointing Valerie as a District Court judge in 1999. It seems pretty clear that Valerie surely wasn’t the most qualified attorney in the Las Vegas area; however, it is apparent that she proved her worth by acting as a compliant lackey for the local political hacks.
On June 5, 2012, the Nevada Judicial Commission charged Judge Vega with the following misconduct.
Judge Vega presided over the original trial that ended with a hung jury and retrial of Victor Fakoya who was charged with first degree murder of a child. The retrial ended with an acquittal of Mr. Fakoya. During the course of the retrial, Valerie ordered the jury, court staff and the attorneys to conduct proceedings for a continuous period of time beginning at 1:12 pm on Dec. 16, 2010 until the jury returned a verdict at 6:57 am on Dec 17, 2010. Valerie made this outrageous order so as to accommodate her personal vacation schedule.
In addition, Valerie engaged in the following arrogant behavior during the Fakoya retrial.
Recessed court in the early afternoon on six (6) separate occasions so that she would be able to attend her daughter’s high school soccer games
When Dr. Omalu, an out-of-state expert was called by the prosecution to testify, she refused to allow him to finish his testimony so he could return home and called a recess of the trial so she could attend her daughter’s soccer game
Arrogant Valerie’s fate will now be decided by the justices sitting on the Nevada Supreme Court. Given their dismal record in disciplining Judicial Misfits, I don’t’ suspect that Valerie has much to worry about.
