Attorney Samuel Smith II of Cleveland; ethical troll, repeat offender

The state of Ohio presented Samuel Ray Smith II with a law license in 2003 after he graduated from Cleveland State University School of Law.

FYI: This isn’t Sammy’s First bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. He previously received a complimentary reprimand for engaging in a variety of misconduct. An article setting forth Sammy’s misconduct can be found by visiting the URL listed at the end of this article.

Disciplinary Counsel found Sammy guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Sammy charged with 19 ethical violations arising from his conduct in four separate client matters
  • Signed and filed a plea-in-absentia form on behalf of a client without the client’s permission and that he had falsely notarized the form
  • Failed to take reasonable steps to protect his clients or to refund the unearned portions of their fees upon the termination
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Blamed others for his failure to protect his clients’ interests
  • Neglected a client’s appeal
  • Failedto deposit advanced fees into his client trust account
  • Made a false statement to a court
  • Made misrepresentations to disciplinary counsel during the disciplinary proceedings (Screw you, said Sammy!)

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished Sammy by gifting him with a complimentary 18-month suspension of his law license effective March 23, 2022.

As we speak (ca. April 2022), Sammy will resume his so-called practice of law with the Law Office of Samuel R. Smith at 1220 West 6th Street in Cleveland, Ohio August 2024.

Samuel Ray Smith II, of Cleveland, Ohio, Attorney Registration No. 0076242, was admitted to the practice of law in Ohio in 2003. On December 6, 2017, we suspended him from the practice of law for 18 months, with the final 12 months stayed on the condition that he engage in no further misconduct.
