Attorney Osborne Barnwell of Toronto; ethical troll

The Law Society of Upper Canada presentedOsborne Godfrey Barnwell with a law license in 1995 after he graduated from the University of Ottawa School of Law.

The Hearing Committee for the Law Society of Ontario found Osborne guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Acted as escrow agent in furtherance of an illegitimate financing transaction facilitated by client AB wherein, he released $100,000 received in trust from CD and EF to Client AB and/or third parties, in reliance on suspect transactional documents
• Knowingly assisted Client AB in dishonest conduct
• Accepted and disbursed funds in circumstances where he ought to have known that he was being used by Client AB, an associated person, or any other person to facilitate dishonest conduct against CD and EF, who lost $100,000
• Acted as escrow agent in furtherance of an illegitimate financing transaction facilitated by Client GH, wherein he released $90,000 received in trust from IJ and KL, to Client GH and/or third parties, in reliance on suspect transactional documents, and thereby: knowingly assisted Client GH in dishonest conduct

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Hearing Committee punished Osborne by gifting him with a complimentary 1-month suspension of his law license.

And lastly, as one would suspect, Osborne and his firm fail to mention the misconduct set forth above on their self-serving website at www.ogblaw.con.  Apparently, they chose to conceal this relevant information from prospective clients for the purpose of not limiting their future victim pool.
