Attorney Walter D. Channels of Costa Mesa, CA; serial offender

The state of California provided Walter David Channels with a law license in 1981 after he graduated from Western State University Law School.

The California Bar Court found Walter guilty of misconduct on four (4) occasions, some of which is set forth below.

1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree - 1992

The Bar Court found Walter guilty of misconduct involving two client (victim) matters. That misconduct included the following:
  1. Failure to return unearned fees
  2. Failing to promptly return files to client after he was discharged
  3. Continuing to work on a legal matter after the client had discharged him
As a consequence of his 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Bar Court punished Walter by gifting him with a complimentary private reproval.

2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree - 1996

The Bar Court found Walter guilty of misconduct involving four client (victim) matters. That misconduct included the following:
  1. Failing to communicate with clients
  2. Failing to competently perform legal services (moron)
  3. Failure to return files to client after he was discharged
  4. Failure to appear at a sentencing hearing on behalf of a client (victim)
  5. Sanctioned by court for failing to file appellate brief on behalf of a client
As a consequence of his 2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Bar Court punished Walter by gifting him with a complimentary 45-day suspension of his law license.

3rd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree - 1998

This misconduct related to Walter’s failure to abide by a restitution order relating to the Bar Court’s finding of misconduct in 1996. Rather than pay the amount he was ordered to reimburse fees he had not earned, Walter filed for bankruptcy and subsequently the $15,000 he owed his clients was discharged. Put simply, Walter was able to retain the unearned fees via his filing for bankruptcy.

As a consequence of his 3rd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Bar Court punished Walter by gifting him with a complimentary 45-day suspension of his law license.

4th bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree – 2001

The Bar Court found Walter guilty of misconduct involving two client (victim) matters. That misconduct included the following:
  1. Improperly withdrew representation of a client
  2. Failed to appear at two hearings on behalf of client (victim)
  3. Walter’s gross negligence in failing to appear at hearings led the court to grant a default judgment against his client
  4. Engaged in the unauthorized practice of law while license suspended (felony in Calfiornia)
As a consequence of his 4th bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Bar Court punished Walter by gifting him with a complimentary 90-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. June 2012) Walter practices with the Law Offices of Walter D. Channels at 129 West Wilson Street in Costa Mesa, California.

Allowing this serial offender and those of his ilk to continue to practice law is a primary reason why most Californians hold the Legal Industry in total contempt.
