Judge James R. Adams of Ft. Myers, FL; favoritism, ethical dwarf

The state of Florida presented James R. Adams with a law license in 1983.

The Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC) found Judge Adams guilty of the following misconduct.

For at least a year, Judge Adams was involved in a romantic relationship with Kennetha Lynn Donahue, a lawyer that appeared before him in a considerable number of cases. In these cases, Adams granted his girlfriend Kennetha a considerable number of continuances at her behest.

In several cases involving Kennetha as defense counsel, Judge Adams dismissed all charges against her clients. A real classy gentleman!

As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Judicial Misfits sitting on the JQC panel punished Adams by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

In a lame effort at levity, the panel members had the chutzpah to give Judge Adams credit in mitigation because he accepted full responsibility for his misconduct during his romantic relationship with Ms. Donahue. Clearly the panel members missed their calling as standup comedians. If Judge Adams didn’t accept responsibility who would they have bee willing to blame? Maybe Mickey Mouse would have been a good target!

As we speak (ca. June 2012) Judge Adams still remains on the bench in Lee County.
