Attorney Richard Petty of Clearwater, MN; slacker, loser

The state of Minnesota presented Richard W. Petty with a law license in 2004 after he graduated from Hamline University School of Law.

The Office of Lawyer Regulation found Dick guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Made multiple false statements to clients and a third party
  • Forged client’s signature on a document
  • Submitted false or fraudulently obtained evidence to a court in two matters
  • Failed to deposit client funds into his trust account
  • Failed to maintain required trust account books and records
  • Offered monetary settlements conditioned on two former clients withdrawing their disciplinary complaints
  • Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Screw you, said Dick!)
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty, or misrepresentation
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Minnesota Supreme Court punished Dick by gifting him with a complimentary 90-day suspension of his law license and assessed investigative costs of $900.00.

As we speak (ca. February 2022), Dick practices his so-called brand of law Clearwater, Minnesota.
