Attorney Dennis Mathahs of Marengo, IA; thieving druggie

The state of Iowa provided Dennis Mathahs with a law license in 2001 after he graduated from the University of Iowa School of Law.

The Office of Lawyer Regulation found Davey guilty of engaging in the following misconduct

Denny’s 1^st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

• Pled guilty to possession of marijuana

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Denny by gifting his with a complimentary reprimand.

Denny’s 2^nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

• Charged and collected excessive fees (thief)
• Denny claimed over 3,000 hours and received over $180,000 in fees in one year from the Public Defender’s Office
• Double-billed 25.4 hours for representation of five clients, this amounted to an illegal charge of $1,524.00
• Claimed duplicate mileages totaling 20,206 miles, which at thirty-five cents per mile would amount to $7072.10
• During one year, Denny claimed $186,219 in fees (3103.65 hours multiplied by $60) and $15,788.85 for mileage expenses (45,111 miles multiplied by thirty-five cents)
• Denny’s claim he worked over 3,000 hours in a 12-month period was found to be unbelievable

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Denny by gifting his with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license. 

And lastly,because attorneys in Iowa are held to a much lower standard then everyone else, Denny was never criminally charged for fraud and/or grand theft.
