Attorney Beth Bant of Ogema, WI; serial fraudster

The state of Wisconsin presented Beth Bant (BB) with a law license in 1998 after she graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Law.

The Office of Lawyer Regulation (OLR) found Davey guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation
  • Submitted a request for reimbursement of the $1,115 fee listed on a fabricated seminar registration receipt that Beth had created using computer editing software
  • The fabricated receipt listed the dates of the seminar as December 8 and 9, 2016, even though the seminar was actually scheduled to take place on November 3 and 4, 2016
  • Based on her fabricated expenses, Beth’s employer paid her the requested sum of $1,115 for the seminar fee
  • Beth lied to her employer that she would fly to New Orleans for the seminar on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, and would attend the seminar on December 8 and 9, 2016
  • Fabricated a receipt for the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans for the nights of December 7, 8, and 9, 2016, in the amount of $1,562.92
  • Fabricated a receipt for a restaurant meal in New Orleans for the date of December 8, 2016 in the amount of $43
  • A subsequent audit of Attorney Beth's travel and expense claims revealed a fraudulent charge of $557.28 for three nights at a hotel in Madison, Wisconsin, from June 7 through 10, 2016

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Wisconsin Supreme punished Beth by gifting her with a complimentary 6-month suspension of her law license and assessed investigative costs of $10,177.91.

And lastly, because attorneys in Wisconsin are held to much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Beth was never criminally charged with grand theft.

As we speak (ca. May 2021), Beth practices her brand of law at 4754 Prentice Hill Road in Ogema, Wisconsin.
