Attorney James Thomas of Palm Harbor, FL; ethical troll

The state of Florida provided James M. Thomas with a law license in 2002 after he graduated from the John Marshall School of Law.

The Florida State Bar found Jimmy guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Court entered judgment as to liability in favor of Tommy’s client and reserved ruling on the amount of damages and attorney’s fees and costs
  • Jimmy failed to appear at two properly noticed pre-trial conferences on behalf of his client
  • Jimmy’s failure to appear at pre-trial conferences led to trial court dismissing client’s case
  • Trial court found Jimmy’s failure to appear at pre-trial conferences to more than excusable neglect and as a direct consequence of Jimmy’s conduct his client received nothing
  • Despite Jimmy’s gross incompetence, his client was required to pay him $30,563.10 in fees
  • Subsequently, Jimmy refiled the clients case but failed to pursue it

As one would suspect, this wasn’t Jimmy’s First bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. He previously received a complimentary reprimand for engaging in a variety of misconduct.

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Florida Supreme punished Johnny by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license effective December 1, 2020.

As we speak (ca. April 2021), Jimmy will resume his so-called brand of practice at 36181 East Lake Road in Palm Harbor, Florida in late November 2021.
