Former Judge Joseph Mendelsohn of Charleston, SC; ticket fixer, repeat offender

 

The state of South Carolina presented Joseph Sidney Mendelsohn with a law license in 1992 after he graduated from Georgetown University School of Law.

 

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel found Joey guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

 

Joey’s 1st bite at the Judicial Misfit Apple Tree

  • Arrested after traffic stop on way home from a wedding
  • Police officer noticed Joey swerving and braking for no apparent reason
  • An open bottle of whiskey was found in his back seat
  • Joey refused to take an alcohol breath test and was immediately arrested
  • Found guilty of driving under the influence (DUI)

As a direct consequence of his conduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the South Carolina Supreme Court punished Joey by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

 

Joey’s 2nd bite at the Judicial Misfit Apple Tree

  • Fixed a traffic ticket for a friend
  • Fixed another traffic ticket for his brother-in-law
  • At least twice interfered with magistrate court’s normal process for adjudicating traffic tickets

As a direct consequence of his conduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the South Carolina Supreme Court punished Joey by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

 

As we speak (ca. July 2021), Joey practices his brand of law at 1 Bishop Gadsden Way in Charleston, South Carolina.
