Former Judge Barbara Roberts of Oroville, CA; bullying loser

The state of California presented Barbara Louise Roberts with a law license in 1982 after she graduated from the University of Pacific McGeorge School of Law.

Former Gov. Pete Wilson was duped into appointing Barbara as a Butte County Court judge in 1998. She didn’t receive the appointment because she was the most qualified attorney in the greater Butte County area. She received it because she had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

The Commission on Judicial Performance found Barbara guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in a pattern of poor demeanor in multiple dependency cases
  • Treated primarily parents, but in one case, attorneys and a social worker, in a harsh and discourteous manner
  • Abused her authority and became personally embroiled in one case
  • Yelled at court staff and engaged in a display of impatient and frustrated behavior in the clerk’s office
  • Discourteously raised her voice to another judge.”
  • Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
  • Misconduct involved harsh and degrading treatment of multiple vulnerable and struggling parents in dependency
  • Lacked any remorse for the harm her ‘tough love’ approach caused parents appearing before her, as well as her significant misconduct directed at court staff
  • Failed to be patient, dignified, and courteous toward parents appearing before her in at least 10 dependency hearings
  • Rolled her eyes, shook her head, argued with the parents, saying that she didn’t care if the mother had a prescription for marijuana, and declared that she could order the mother to do whatever she wanted

As a direct consequence of her years long egregious misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission punished Barbara by gifting her with a complimentary admonition.

And lastly and luckily for the good folks in Butte County, Barbara retired in late 2020.

As we speak (ca. August 2021), Barbara practices her brand of law in Oroville, California.
