Attorney Matthew Mauk of Ames, IA; slacker, serial offender

 

The state of Iowa presented Dianne Renay Wallwey with a law license in 2006 after she graduated from the University of Iowa School of Law.

 

The Iowa Supreme Court Disciplinary Board found Matty guilty of engaging the following misconduct.

 

In addition to the two (2) instances of misconduct set forth below, Matty was the recipient of two (2) prior complimentary admonishment for engaging in a variety of misconduct including some of the same things involving the two instances addressed below.

 

Matty’s 3rd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Failed to comply with appellate rules and deadlines (Up yours, said Matty!)
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Failed to expedite client litigation
  • Failed to properly supervise office staff

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Matty by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

 

Matty’s 4th bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Failed to comply with appeal court order (Screw you, said Matty!)
  • Failed to comply with deadlines resulting in default notices from the clerk of court and the Court appointing new counsel
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to communicate with his clients
  • Failed to timely handle and close a probate estate resulting in delinquencies
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Consistently failed to perform those obligations that a lawyer has assumed
  • Engaged in a conscious disregard for the responsibilities he owed to his clients

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Matty by gifting him with a complimentary 60-day suspension of his law license.

 

As we speak (ca. February 2021), Matty practices his brand of law in Ames, Iowa.
