Attorney Marcus Mumford of Salt Lake City; ethical ogre

The state of New York presented Marcus R. Mumford with a law license in 2001 after he graduated from the Brigham Young University School of Law.

The Appellate Division, First Department Grievance Committee found Marcus guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Made late filing in appellate matters
  • Engaged in a pattern of failing to file appellate briefs
  • Failed to comply with 10th Circuit’s deadlines, rules and directives was inconsistent with the standards of practice required of attorneys appearing before the Tenth Circuit
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Neglected legal matter
  • Failed to comply with known local customs of courtesy and practice of the bar or a particular tribunal without giving to opposing counsel timely notice of the intent to comply
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness as a lawyer

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the First Department Grievance Committee punished Marcus by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. May 2021), Marcus practices his brand of law in Salt Lake City, Utah.
