Attorney Walter Burkard of Dewitt, NY; ethical elf

The state of New York provided Walter James Burkard with a law license in 1988 after he graduated from Cornell Law School.

The 4th Judicial Department found Christine guilty of the following misconduct:
  1. Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on his trustworthiness
  2. Engaging in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  3. Engaged in conduct reflecting on his fitness to practice law
  4. Entered in a fee agreement in a domestic relations case without reducing it to writing and fully explaining the terms of his fee to the client (victim)
  5. Refused to follow client’s direction to resolve fee dispute via arbitration
  6. Refused to return unearned fee to client (crook)
  7. Neglected a legal matter entrusted to him (slacker)
  8. Failed to comply with attorney registration requirements
As usual, the comedians sitting on the discipline panel bought into Walter’s hyperbolic (BS) defense that his misconduct came about because he was suffering from some alleged family problems and some undiagnosed health problems. Would any reasonably intelligent person buy into this line of crap as a defense? Of course not!

This is just another fine example of why the vast majority of New Yorkers have total contempt for the manner in which Attorney Misfits are punished for engaging in misconduct.

As we speak (ca. May 2012) Walter continues to practice law at 333 Butternut Drive in Dewitt, New York
