Attorney Shirley Bates of Tallahassee; ethical goblin

The state of Florida provided Santiago Asconapé with a law license in 2005 after she graduated from Florida State University School of Law.

The Florida State Bar found Santiago guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Accepted fees to file post-conviction action and then contracted with paralegal to draft motion
  • Failed to respond to client requests for updates
  • Failed to provide client with draft of post-conviction motion despite client’s repeated requests

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Florida Supreme punished Shirley by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. February 2021), Shirley practices her brand of law with The Law Office of Shirley L. Bates at 1450 Lake Bradford Road in Tallahassee, Florida.
