Marc Koplik of New York City; ethical troll

The state of New York presented Marc S. Koplik with a law license in 1993 after he graduated from Yale University School of Law.

The Appellate Division, First Department Grievance Committee found Marc guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Counseled a client to engage in conduct he knew was illegal or fraudulent and suggested to the client that lawyers in the United States can act with impunity
• Met with a potential client who represented himself as appearing on behalf of a West African minister
• The potential client stated that the minister desired to purchase real property in the form of a brownstone, an airplane, and a yacht in the United States
• Marc was under the impression that the money involved was in the tens of millions
• Marc informed the potential client that they would need to hide the true source of the money by setting up different corporations to own the properties the minister sought to purchase
• Provided assurances regarding protection of the attorney-client privilege and stated that "they don't send the lawyers [in the United States] to jail because we run the country"

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the First Department Grievance Committee punished Ricky by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

And lastly, as one would suspect, Marc and his firm fail to disclose the misconduct set forth above on their self-serving website at www.kopliklaw.com. Apparently, they decided to conceal said relevant facts from prospective clients to prevent limiting their future victim pool.
