Judge Joshua Butcher of Logan, WV; ethical troll

The state of West Virginia provided Joshua D. Butcher with a law license in 2007 after he graduated from the University of West Virginia School of Law.

The West Virginia Judicial Investigation Commission found Judge Butcher guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Failed to comply with the law (scofflaw)
• Failed to act in manner promoting public confidence in the integrity of the judiciary
• Failed to avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety
• Participated in activities that led to reasons for his disqualification as a judge
• Participated in activities that would appear to a reasonable person to undermine Joshua's independence, integrity, or impartiality
• Joshua’s explanation for not immediately turnover over a $1,000 scholarship reimbursement check to the Court because he suffers from poor financial acumen deemed implausible
• In his written response to the ethics complaint, Joshua claimed that he did not know why he received the $1,000 check even though he deposited the money in his personal bank account
• In addition, Joshua never claimed the $1,000 on his 2017 taxes

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Investigation Commission punished Joshua by gifting him with a complimentary admonition.

As we speak (ca. January 2021), Joshua continues to practice his so-called brand of jurisprudence as a 17th Judicial Circuit Court Judge in Logan, West Virginia.
