Judge Hunter Murphy of Raleigh, NC; ethical troll

The state of North Carolina presented Hunter Murphy with a law license in 2006 after he graduated from the University of Pacific McGeorge School of Law.

The Judicial Standards Commission found Hunter guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Contributed to a toxic work environment
• Hunter’s female clerks were sexually harassed
• Female clerks subjected to profane language and threatening behavior, and publicly demeaned
• Failed to stop the behavior of his executive assistant before misrepresenting it to investigators
• Helped foster a work atmosphere that spilled out of his office, drew the attention of fellow judges, and “denigrated the reputation and integrity of the judiciary as a whole”

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the North Carolina Supreme Court punished Hunter by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. May 2021), Hunter continues to sit as an Appellate Judge in Raleigh, North Carolina.
