Former Judge Jose Contreras of San Antonio, TX; bullying loser

The State of Texas provided Jose “Joey” Contreras with a law license in 1988 after he graduated from the University of Texas School of Law.

The State Commission on Judicial Conduct found Jose guilty of engaging in the following misconduct, all of which took place while he was sitting as a 187th Criminal District Court Judge in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.

• Defense counsel accused Ms. Legarreta of being the author of an anonymous letter to the court wherein it was alleged that attorneys for a criminal defendant were unqualified to handle the case and that Jose should replace them
• Instructed his court coordinator to not tell Ms. Legarreta the purpose for her requested appearance before him
• The two defendants in the matter stated to Judge Contreras that they recognized Ms. Legarreta’s handwriting on the anonymous letter
• Failed to inform Ms. Legarreta as to the reason for her appearance, nor did he issue an order requiring her appearance (aka, “due process”)
• During a hearing before Jose, Ms. Legarreta vehemently denied she was the author of the anonymous letter
• As a result of Judge Contreras’ conduct at the hearing, Ms. Legarreta said she felt “embarrassed, blindsided, attacked and helpless”

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Texas Supreme Court punished Jose by gifting him with a complimentary admonition.  

As we speak (ca. July 2021), Jose practices his brand of law at 823 Hoefgen Street in San Antonio, Texas.
