The state of North Carolina presented John H. McWilliam with a law license in 1993 after he graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law.

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar found Johnny guilty of the following misconduct

• Conduct had potential negative impact on legal profession and the public’s perception of the legal profession
• Failed to properly supervise office bookkeeper
• Failure to supervise bookkeeper led to embezzlement of entrusted funds
• Failed to review bank statements or any other records for the BB&T and North State trust accounts
• Failed to reconcile, at least quarterly, the North State trust account
• Failed to reconcile, at least monthly, his check register with his trust account bank statements
• Failed to instruct anyone else to conduct mandatory monthly reconciliations
• Failed to reconcile at least quarterly the BB&T trust account
• Failed to reconcile, at least monthly, his check register with his trust account bank statements

As a direct consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Johnny gifting him with a complimentary stayed 2-year suspension of his law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the North Carolina State Bar didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Johnny.
