Solicitor Kang Bee Leng of Singapore; ethical goblin

The Law Society of Singapore presented Kang Bee Leng with a law license in 1990 after she graduated from the National University of Singapore School of Law.

The Singapore Disciplinary Tribunal found Kang guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Convicted for Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act (CDSA) for failing to file a Suspicious Transaction Report (STR) despite having reasonable grounds to believe that the $5.5 million paid by her client towards the purchase of a property represented proceeds that were linked to a Ponzi scheme operating in China
  • Kang was informed by the real estate agent that her client had been detained by the authorities in China for her involvement in a Ponzi scheme and thereafter the Respondent came across various news articles verifying that her client had indeed been involved the said Ponzi scheme
  • Despite becoming suspicious that the monies used by the client to pay for the said property purchase could have been derived from fraud, she did not file an STR as required
  • Due to failure to report client’s $5.5 million transaction, Kang was fined $10,000

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Three Judges of the Republic of Singapore punished Kang by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand and fined him $5,000.00.

As we speak (ca. October 2020), Kang practices with the Sterling Law Corporation at 4 Battery Road in Singapore.
