Attorney Thomas Stanley of Encino, CA; idiot, repeat offender

The state of California presented Thomas Alan Stanley with a law license in 2010 after he graduated from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law.  

The State Bar Court found Tommy guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

Tommy’s 1^st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

• Misconduct involved multiple offenses
• Failed to communicate with his clients
• Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
• Improperly shared legal fees with nonlawyer
• Failed to render appropriate accounts to a client regarding all funds of the client coming into his possession
• Abandoned client matter without doing any work of value on the case
• Ceased client representation without notify client
• Willfully failed to perform legal services with competence (idiot)
• Failed to provide an accounting of any work which may have been performed on client’s case despite being asked
• Failed to respond to client communication to refund unearned fees (Up yours, said Tommy!)
• Failed to appear at three (3) court-scheduled hearings on client’s behalf
• Failed to return client file to client upon being terminated
• Willfully failed, upon termination of employment, to take reasonable steps to avoid reasonably foreseeable prejudice to his client
• Failed to respond to client information requests
• Failed to keep clients informed of status of their legal matters

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the State Bar Court punished Tommy by gifting him with a complimentary 4-month suspension of his law license.

Tommy’s 2^nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

• Repeatedly failed to perform with competence (moron)
• Failed to perform agreed to legal services on behalf of a client
• Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Screw you, said Tommy!)
• Misconduct involved multiple offenses
• Misconduct caused harm to his clients

In addition, Tommy agreed and ordered to pay the following restitution to his clients [victims].

• JoeGene Castillo, $8000.00 plus inter
• Maria Ibarra: $1,000.00 plus interest 
• Juana Martinez Ramos: $2,500.00 plus interest
• Jaime Mercado: $6,000.00 plus interest
• James Mason or Katherine Mason: $4,000.00 plus interest

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the State Bar Court punished Tommy by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license and assessed investigative costs of $3,669.00.
