Attorney Derek Fletcher of Charlotte, NC: ethical troll

The state of North Carolina presented Derek Ross Fletcher with a law license in 1975 after he graduated from North Carolina Central University School of Law.

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar found Derek guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in the illegal practice of law
  • Failed to provide legal services for the $750.00 fee paid by Harty or make a refund
  • Failed to take reasonable steps to protect his client's interest in
  • Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Screw you, said Derek!)
  • Failed to obtain limited driving privilege for his client
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to explain status of matter to client
  • Fletcher failed to take reasonable steps to protect his client's interest

As a direct consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Derek by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 1-year suspension of his law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Derek.

As we speak (ca. January 2021), Derek practices at 338 South Sharon Amity Road in Charlotte, North Carolina.
